SF Tops Siemen's US-Canada 2011 Green City Index
June 30, 2011 at 09:53AM The survey is a relatively new, but regular one, by the Economist Intelligence Unit, a research division of the Economist, and sponsored by Siemens Corporation. Explore the Green Cities Index itself, 2010 winners, and the US and Canada Green City Index 2011, with links to press release and press special report.
Indexes are useful to illuminate relative rankings and for highlighting current initiatives; however, no sustainability index to date uses an objective measure of sustainability success as an absolute benchmark. Although these indexes are motivational, they need to be set within the users own understanding of the objective requirements for sustainability, the distance yet to be traveled, the innovation process required, and a strategic assessment of the next best, most powerful, and transformational moves.
